Successfully Growing Doublet Begonias
Soil Media/pH
Plant in a well-drained, peat-lite media with a pH of 5.5-6.2
Temperature
Initial growing temperatures are best at 68°F-72°F night. After plants are established, 62°F-64°F night is acceptable.
Light
Doublets will tolerate light levels between 2,000 and 4,000 f.c. in the greenhouse depending upon ambient air temperatures (the higher the temperature, the lower the acceptable light.)
Fertilizer
Fertilize with a balanced feed such as 20-10-20 or 15-15-15 at 150ppm constant feed (up to 200ppm for bark mixes.)
Growth Regulators
These plants are naturally compact and require little, if any PGR's. Use Cycocel®/B-9® tank mix at 750/1,250ppm respectively.
Scheduling
One plant per 4" pot will finish with no pinching in 5 to 6 weeks. Three plants per 6" pot will finish in 6-8 weeks. Once plant pinched may also be used for 6" production with a finish time of 8-10 weeks. Three to four plants per 10" hanging basket will finish in 10-14 weeks.
